Unum Dental Insurance

Strengthen your teeth’s Defences with Unum Dental.

Who is it for?

Unum Dental insurance is available via the My Lifestyle portal, which is currently available to staff working in:

  • MOD Main

  • DE&S

  • SDA

  • RFA

Outside of the enrolment window (19 May to the 16 June 2025) only new starters will be able to register for an Unum Dental Policy.

What's the Offer?

Unum Dental cover can support you with the reimbursement of the costs of planned and pending treatments (where treatment has been identified but not yet started). There is even an option to add cover for partners and/or children. With plans starting from only £11.56 per month, you can choose to visit either NHS or Private dentists, both in the UK and worldwide. You can start claiming from your policy start date with a fast claims payment via Unum Dentals, simple, online paperless process. When you take out a policy with Unum, you also get access to ‘Toothfairy’ a digital dental care app on demand.

An overview of what is covered:

  • 100% of NHS charges

  • Examinations and scaling’s with a dentist or hygienist

  • Fillings and root canal treatments

  • Treatment for accidents/injuries

  • Crowns and bridges

  • Mouthguards

  • Dental Implants (availability depends on cover level chosen)

  • Children’s orthodontic charges (for insured children at an additional cost)

    You will need to sign-in to the My Lifestyles portal to access the Unum Dental policies. If you are already registered, you can do this by using the relevant link below and entering your email address and password.

    New to Defence or not yet registered? If you’re new to Defence or haven’t yet registered with the My Lifestyles portal, you will need to do this first. You can do this by selecting the relevant link below and then selecting ‘register to get access’. Your payroll ID is your MOD staff number (e.g. 123456A), which can found on MyHR or your Payslip.

    Only registered on the old My Lifestyle Portal? If you were registered on the ‘old’ Mylifestyle system, you should have recieved an email to re-activate your account. If you haven’t recieved an email you can re-activate your account by using the relevant link below and selecting ‘Activate your account’.

    To sign-in, register or re-activate your Mylifestyle account, click the correct link below and follow the instructions:

    Please be aware, if you are new to the Civil Service, it can take up to 8 weeks from your Civil Service Start date for your details to interface with the third party. If after 8 weeks you are still experiencing issues, please utilise the Digital Workplace and submit a new query to your Pay team for further investigation, or via the email address peopleservices@dbs.mod.uk if you do not have access to Digital Workplace.

    Once you have signed into the MyLifestyle portal, you will need to:

    • Visit the ‘My benefits’ tab and follow the instructions on the Unum dental page.

    • Enter the required information which will include your MOD staff number, date of birth and the relevant enrolment code:

      • Defence Equipment & Support: B1F822/3077

      • Royal Fleet Auxiliary: 1F5D1E/3076

      • Submarine Delivery Agency: 7A9C9E/3075

      • Ministry of Defence (MOD Main): 1963D2/2542

    • Select the desired level of cover from the range of plans available before the enrolment window closes (16 June).

    • Your plan will then begin from 1 July (or a later date if you are a new starter and sign-up after the 1 July).
